The Company

Richard (pictured opposite at Leigh upon Mendip country Fair) enjoys taking part in the live competitions at the county shows.

This tests the blacksmiths skills as the competition takes place in front of the general public without all the aids you would find to hand in their own workshops, it is also done against the clock, so there is no time for a second attempt if things go wrong.

These shows offer the smiths a chance to meet & exchange ideas, whilst displaying their craft to the general public & show them the quality & craftmanship available.

Dragon Works Forge was created by Richard Jones in November 2007 following 8 years with McCloud Lighting and 4 years with Canepa Lighting making Bespoke & standard lighting range and furniture in Wrought Iron, mild steel, Stainless steel, Brass and Copper using both traditional methods (punching, riveting and Fire welding) and fabrication (welding in Mig, Tig, stick, and Gas).

Richard has been blacksmithing for about Fifteen years. He trained with the Blacksmiths Guild at WestPoint, Devon (the county showground). To give something back & encourage others to learn the craft he occasionally teaches at WestPoint.

Richard takes an active part in promoting blacksmithing by competing in the National blacksmithing competitions around the country and for the last seven years he has been in the top two in the country in the live competitions run at the shows. In 2007 He received a diploma & became an Associate of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. In 2009 he Qualified as a Judge with the W.C.B.
He has organised the Blacksmiths stand at the North Somerset Show since it relocated to its permanent home at Wraxall near Bristol, as well as serving as a steward at the Royal Bath and West of England show. He sits on the National Blacksmith Competition Committee which oversees the blacksmithing competitions at the county shows.
